West Milford Firefighter, 79, Dies In Maintenance Ladder Fall

WEST MILFORD, N.J. — Longtime West Milford firefighter Alfred A. Steward died Sunday morning at the firehouse after falling from a ladder on maintenance duty.

He was 79 years old.

Stewart served as a lieutenant, deputy chief, assistant chief and fire chief for West Milford Fire Company 6.

He began working for the Township of West Milford as a fire inspector in May 1980, and served as Deputy Fire Commissioner for the municipality.

Stewart is survived by his wife of 23 years, Linda (Nicholas) Stewart; his sons, Richard of West Milford and Alfred of Jefferson; his daughters Debra Struble of Manchester, NJ; Kimberly Holstrom of West Milford and Karen Lupinacci of Gainesville, Florida; his sister Jan Messina of Texas, fifteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
