Eric Hawk had just boarded an NJ Transit bus when they grabbed him Thursday, Police Chief Timothy Storbeck said.

Hawk, who had several outstanding warrants, was taken to the Passaic County Jail to await a bail hearing after Storbeck said he confessed to stealing a car from the Hewitt section of town on Dec. 17 and then swiping $250 worth of baby formula from Walgreens on Dec. 28.

The car was recovered in Paterson and returned to its owner the day after it was stolen.

Stobeck urged citizens to remember to lock vehicles, homes and businesses and to never leave keys inside cars.
