Gabriel Bernard, 24 -- who'd been arrested on drug charges in Maywood two months ago -- told officers who found him parked on Furnace Avenue just after 9:30 p.m. Sunday that he "was an Uber driver and was resting," Capt. Kenneth Fackina said.

Police couldn't determine whether he was telling the truth, Fackina said.

He later "admitted to injecting heroin about an hour earlier and being in possession of heroin and syringes," which the officers found, he said.

Bernard was arrested and processed on drug charges before being released pending a hearing in Central Judicial Processing Court in Paterson.
