Ringwood Rescue Finds Home For Puppy Whose Ears Were Cropped With Scissors

RINGWOOD, N.J. — Layla was only a few weeks old but dying when Ringwood’s Southern Paws rescued her from a Mississippi backyard breeder last summer.

Her ears had been cropped with scissors and she was severely malnourished.

But the pit mix has made a full recovery, and has become her new adoptive mom’s sidekick.

“We do everything together,” said Jessica Newman of Stamford, Conn., who adopted Layla last November.

Newman found her pup on PetFinder and heard back from Southern Paws owner Ashley Gardenier of Ramsey the soon after. That was only a few months after she put her other dog down.

“She has definitely helped me heal,” Newman said. “She’s such a good girl.”
