Start The New Year With Hike In Ringwood

RINGWOOD, N.J. -- The NJBG/Skylands Association and Ringwood State Park will ring in the new year with a free First Day Hike on Jan. 1 at the New Jersey State Botanical Garden.

The self-guided, family-friendly hike includes a climb to the Mount Defiance overlook on the Halifax trail or an alternate hike without a climb.

The self-guided, family-friendly hike includes a climb to the Mount Defiance overlook on the Halifax trail or an alternate hike without a climb.

Hikes will begin at Skylands between 1 and 2 p.m. at the Carriage House Visitor Center of the New Jersey State Botanical Garden.

Participants should wear sturdy shoes and weather-appropriate clothes for the 90 minute hike. Map and hike directions will be provided. Assistance will be available from staff along the trail.
