The Cardinal Café had faced a costly relocation that it may not have survived, the story says. The new plans utilize the air rights above the building, and cut the apartment units down from 82 to 44, the story says.
The Cardinal Café, a borough hallmark for decades, serves breakfast and lunch, and does takeout. It's open daily and enjoys a hefty following from Pompton Lakes High School whose students can go off campus for lunch.

Gladys Ibarra and her husband, Manny, bought the restaurant about 18 years ago. They have hired some of their young patrons, and some from the earlier years have returned to The Cardinal Cafe with their own kids, Ibarra previously told Daily Voice.
