Pompton Lakes Artists Plan To Paint The Town Red (And Green!)

POMPTON LAKES, N.J. – The owners of one of downtown Pompton Lakes’ newest businesses are working to help turn the Wanaque Avenue corridor into a winter wonderland this season.

Michael and Anabel Accardi, who opened Artastic/Art Academy in December, are coordinating a project to paint storefront windows with holiday themes. The initiative is sponsored by the Pompton Lakes Business Improvement District.

Teams of painters will take to storefront windows to paint holiday-themed pictures on the glass. The artists will try to give each painting a theme that matches the business it is on, said Michael Accardi.

“So, for example, the hardware store might have a painting of elves building toys,” he said.

Anabel Accardi said the project is a way to bring the community and businesses together.

“This is the first year we are doing this for the town, and we are hoping that it will become a tradition, something that we do every year, and that it will grow more and more throughout the years,” she said.

She said she pictures people hanging out on the streets, having hot chocolate and coming together to beautify the town.

The Accardis are still looking for more people to paint storefronts. The project is open to kids of middle school age through adults – and expert painting abilities are not required.

On Sunday from 5-8 p.m. participants will meet to plan concepts for the windows. The windows will be painted on Tuesday, Nov. 22, from 5-9 p.m. Both evenings will start with a meeting at Artastic/Art Academy, 322 Wanaque Ave., Pompton Lakes.

Those interested in joining the painting team should register by contacting Michael Accardi at 862-248-0022 or info@artacademy.education.
