Armed Person Shoots, Kills Dog Attacking Woman: Newark PD A concerned citizen shot and killed a dog mauling a woman Thanksgiving morning in Newark, authorities said. Police responded at 9:10 a.m. to the 200 block of S. 9th Street after receiving a report that a dog had bitten a woman, Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda said. An armed citizen at the scene fired a handgun at the dog to stop the attack against the victim, who was taken to University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Miranda said. The 2-alarm blaze was reported at a home on Friendship Road in South Brunswick. Local police shared footage of flames tearing through.  Initial reports say the roof collapsed.
