Armed Person Shoots, Kills Dog Attacking Woman: Newark PD A concerned citizen shot and killed a dog mauling a woman Thanksgiving morning in Newark, authorities said. Police responded at 9:10 a.m. to the 200 block of S. 9th Street after receiving a report that a dog had bitten a woman, Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda said. An armed citizen at the scene fired a handgun at the dog to stop the attack against the victim, who was taken to University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Miranda said. The 2-alarm blaze was reported at a home on Friendship Road in South Brunswick. Local police shared footage of flames tearing through.  Initial reports say the roof collapsed. The fire was reportedly under control as of press time.
