Thanksgiving Crash Kills Former NJ Hockey Captain Gavin Barooah, 19
The victim killed in a Morris County crash on Thanksgiving Night, Nov. 28 has been identified as a 19-year-old former hockey player. Gavin Barooah, of Ledgewood, was behind the wheel of a Mercedes Benz when his vehicle collided with a Jeep around 8 p.m. at Morris and Sussex turnpikes in Randolph, according to Meghan Knab, a spokesperson for the county prosecutor's office. The driver of the Jeep was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. An off-duty police sergeant has been charged in a head-on crash that killed a 55-year-old man on his way to work earlier this month on Route 23 in Morris County, authorities said. Keith Gunther, 42, of Wanaque, and a sergeant with the East Hanover Police Department, was behind the wheel of the Ford F-150 that was traveling south in the northbound lanes when it struck a 2005 Toyota Camry, headed north, head-on just before 11 p.m. in Riverdale on Tuesday, Oct. 15, Morris County Prosecutor Robert Carroll said. Paterson Man, 55, Killed In Head-On Crash After Moving To NJ For Better Life: Campaign
Authorities have released the identity of the person killed in a crash on Route 23 earlier this week. Hamid Shabuddin, 55, of Paterson was a passenger in a 2005 Toyota Camry that collided head-on with a 2021 Ford F-150 at 11 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 15 in the northbound lanes in Riverdale, a spokesperson for the prosecutor's office said. Shabbudin was pronounced dead at the scene while the driver of the Camry was taken to a hospital. Police ID Missing Fisherman Found Dead In NJ Lake
Police have identified the fisherman who went missing and was later found dead in a New Jersey lake. Valeri Malov, of Pine Brook, had gone fishing in the body of water behind an industrial complex on Chapin Road Saturday morning, Aug. 24, Montville Police Chief Andrew Caggiano said. Responding officers found his fishing equipment on the shoreline and began a search of the area. Malov's body was found the following day around 8:50 p.m. in the water, and he was pronounced dead at the scene, Caggiano said. Possible Drowning Probed At North Jersey Lake, Police Say
Police were investigating a possible drowning at a North Jersey lake over the weekend. A man in his 70s was seen entering Lake Hopatcong but never came out on Saturday, June 22, a spokesperson for the Roxbury Police Department said. The call came in just after 7:30 p.m., bringing the Roxbury Fire Department, New Jersey State Police, and the Morris County Sheriff's Office to the scene. As of Sunday, June 23 at 10 p.m., the investigation remained active, the spokesperson said.

A loaded gun was recovered from a stolen Mercedes Benz following a high-speed pursuit and subsequent crash in which a 19-year-old man and four juveniles were charged, police in Morris County said. Hanover police officer Brian Morrisroe was on patrol when he saw a Mercedes with heavy window tints and an expired inspection sticker speeding on Wednesday, June 19, Hanover Police Chief Mike Loock said.
