American Among 16 Dead After Lisbon Streetcar Derails; 21 Injured
A sightseeing ride on one of Portugal's most iconic trams turned tragic when a streetcar derailed, killing 16 people and injuring 21 others, officials said. Portuguese police said Thursday, Sept. 4, that several of those killed on the Elevador da Gloria funicular in the capital city of Lisbon were foreigners, including one American. Authorities said the derailment happened around 6:15 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, in central Lisbon. Northeast travelers will experience some of the worst travel delays over the summer, according to a new study. Upgraded Points released its 2025 study of Airports With the Most Summertime Flight Delays on Monday, July 7.
