Would-Be Jumper Hospitalized After Closing Lanes Of George Washington Bridge (

A would-be George Washington Bridge jumper was hospitalized Tuesday night, Sept. 24, after bringing traffic along the bridge to a halt, authorities said. A spokesperson for the Port Authority Police Department confirmed the investigation but not have any further information as of 7:40 p.m. Wednesday morning, a spokesperson said that the incident was reported at 5:42 p.m. near the 179th Street ramp in the westbound lanes. All lanes along the ramp were closed. The man was removed and taken to a local hospital, the PAPD said. Traffic resumed at 7:24 p.m.

2,600 Layoffs Expected At NJ Hospital Chain
Nearly 2,600 people employed by a North Jersey hospital chain are expected to be laid off by the end of the year, according to a newly-filed WARN notice. This month, Carepoint Health filed notices with New Jersey's labor department indicating layoffs would begin on Dec. 12 at healthcare centers in Bayonne, Jersey City, and Hoboken. Freehold Raceway, the oldest racetrack in the U.S., will close after two centuries of competitions and Monmouth County history, officials said.
