: Grand Jurors Clear Montclair Officer In Pursuit That Killed Driver, Passenger
A Montclair police officer did his job properly before a robbery suspect he was pursuing was involved in a crash that killed him and a passenger, a grand jury has found. Officer Michael Kupchak had activated the overhead emergency lights on his marked patrol cruiser in an attempt to stop a vehicle driven by Gregory Dukes on May 10, 2022. In another police vehicle behind him was Officer Brandon Taylor. 65 Cars Involved In Icy Crashes On Major NJ Roadway
At least 65 vehicles were involved in a series of crashes on a major ice-covered road in Central Jersey, authorities said. The crashes were blamed on black ice which often forms at dawn and dusk, according to the Monmouth County sheriff. The first chain-reaction crash occurred at 6:27 a.m. Wednesday on Route 36 westbound at the Route 18 ramp, according to Eatontown police. 2021 Has Been A Very Deadly Year For NJ Vehicle Crashes
We haven't even finished the busy holiday season, yet 2021 already is the deadliest year for vehicle crashes in recent years, authorities said. UPDATE: New Jersey State Police counted 652 crashes and 682 deaths so far in 2021 as of Monday Dec. 27 at 10 a.m., as reported here. That compares to 549 vehicle crashes resulting in 587 deaths in all of 2020, Atlantic County Prosecutor Cary Shill said. In these crashes, 171 drivers tested positive for alcohol and 101 were positive for drugs, Shill said. In 2019, there were 524 vehicle crashes resulting in 558 deaths, Shill said. Of thos…
