An abused and neglected dog found by police investigating a crime on Christmas Eve is fortunate to be alive. So his adoptive name makes perfect sense. Officers from Irvington found the dog they named Lucky so severely injured that a leg had to be amputated. He also was covered in maggots and had dense tangles and knots so severe that "they couldn't even tell what breed he is," said Samantha Miller, the media relations manager for the Humane Rescue Alliance. More Than 100 Neglected Cats Rescued From NJ Hoarding Situation
More than 100 neglected cats were rescued from a hoarding situation at a home in South Bound Brook, rescue officials said. Animal control officers from St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center were called in to assist local police after a neighbor complained about a foul odor coming from the home, St Hubert's said. Dozens of cats and kittens were subsequently found living in unsafe and unsanitary conditions, officials said. The unidentified resident surrendered custody of the cats to St. Hubert’s. Hunterdon Central High School Junior, Varsity Lacrosse Goalie Alexea Karpinski Dies, 17
Hunterdon Central High School junior and varsity lacrosse goalie Alexea Karpinski died Nov. 21. She was 17. Born and raised in Raritan Township, Karpinski was known for her love of sports, particularly lacrosse. She played as goalie for the Hunterdon Central Red Devils as well as for the Triple Threat Elite Club Team, her obituary says. Karpinski had a goal of playing D1 lacrosse while pursuing an exercise science degree. She wanted to become a professional athletic trainer, her memorial says.
