$7.5M In Back Wages Paid To 865 Utility Workers Who Restored Power In NJ After Tropical Storm
The 865 utility workers who restored outages in New Jersey following Tropical Storm Isaias in August 2020 will be getting $7.5 million in back wages, state officials said. NJDOL Division of Wage and Hour Compliance investigators found that workers deployed by Pike Electric Inc. of Mount Airy, N.C., were paid less than the rate required by the New Jersey Prevailing Wage Act during the recovery efforts. Friends and loved ones were rallying to support the family of a Palmyra teen killed by a New Jersey Transit train. Matthew Dickinson died on Thursday, Aug. 8, according to the Palmyra School District. He was 15 years old. Dickinson was hit by a River Line train at the Chestnut Street crossing just before 8:20 a.m., a NJ Transit spokesperson said. He was walking to a soccer scrimmage, FOX 29 News reported. Walters is putting the finishing touches on the newly-built Ship Bottom location which it moved into over this summer. The headquarters will eventually include a realty office and restaurant. A wildly popular Jersey Shore chicken joint has expanded its footprint with a second location. Chicken or the Egg, commonly called simply "Chegg," has opened its Marlton location in the space formerly occupied by Kmart at Renaissance Square on Route 70. The flagship location was opened in 1991 by brothers Mark and Craig Cohen in Beach Haven on Long Beach Island. That location will be closed until Feb. 15 for winter break, the restaurant said. Historic Lighthouse Shined-Up In Months-Long Restoration On Jersey Shore
]Barnegat Lighthouse will close to visitors for the next seven months as the Department of Environmental Protection begins a $1.3 million restoration of the historic lighthouse, New Jersey officials said. 11 Infected With COVID At Jersey Shore Teen Night Events
Nearly a dozen children have developed COVID-19 after attending recent Jersey Shore teen night events, health officials said. Eleven teens tested positive for the virus after attending various events at clubs in Beach Haven and Long Beach Island on July 11, 13, 18, 25 and 27, the local health department said in a release. A water search and rescue was canceled about 90 minutes after a small plane was reported crashed off the Jersey Shore, authorities said. The aircraft's suspected crash occurred about 11:30 p.m. Thursday, about a mile offshore from Long Beach Island, reports said.
