The U.S. Coast Guard is investigating the arrival of mysterious tar balls on beaches from Sea Bright south to Asbury Park. Areas affected include Gateway National Park at Sandy Hook and the shoreline at Sea Bright, Monmouth Beach, Long Branch, Deal, Allenhurst and Asbury Park. Fatal Pedestrian Crash Reported On Route 9 Jersey Shore: Police
A man walking along Route 9 in Howell was killed after being struck by a vehicle overnight. The crash occurred at 1:55 a.m. Thursday, June 2 between Alexander Avenue and Ford Road, Howell police said. A 30-year-old Lakewood resident was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. A 46-year-old driver from Monmouth County was killed in a crash on the Garden State Parkway, authorities said. The single-car crash was reported at 9:46 p.m. on Thursday, May 26 at milepost 108 in Tinton Falls, said Sgt. Alejandro Goez, a spokesman for the New Jersey State Police.
