The National Hurricane Center and Coast Guard are warning swimmers to be cautious of life-threatening rip currents in the wake of Hurricane Lee. Strong rip currents and rough surf along the Mid-Atlantic coast are expected to make the water dangerous — even for the strongest swimmers, authorities said. A boater whose craft caught fire was rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard and local firefighters off the Cumberland County coast, authorities said. Boat crews from Downe Township Fire Department, and Little Creek Fire Department responded to the 42-foot recreational boat fire in Delaware Bay, on Tuesday July 18. A 60-year-old boater was rescued by a US Coast Guard helicopter nearly 100 miles off the coast of New Jersey over the weekend (scroll for video). The man had fallen aboard the 31-foot pleasure craft, Reely, on Sunday, and notified watchstanders with Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay. UPDATE: A boater who went missing a mile east of Cape May Monday, Aug. 29 has been found, authorities said. The US Coast Guard and New Jersey State Police are searching for an overdue boater approximately a mile east of Cape May Villas, authorities said. Missing is Christian Johnathon Hosford, Jr., 33, last seen around sunset on Monday, Aug. 29 in a 10-foot John boat near his home in Cape May Villas. A 46-year-old fisherman suffering a medical emergency was rescued off the Jersey Shore by members of the US Coast Guard from Barnegat and Atlantic City, authorities said. Members of the US Coast Guard rescued three boaters after their vessel began taking on water three miles east of Long Branch on Sunday.
