PA Man Charged With Torching NJ Home For Insurance Money
A Pennsylvania man already awaiting trial in connection with other incidents was charged with setting fire to a former home in Cherry Hill to collect on the insurance. Richard Orlandini, 62, of Wilkes Barre, collected at least $75,000 from Allstate by "recklessly placing others in danger of death or bodily injury," New Jersey Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin said. Firefighters reported finding the two-story single-family home on Chapel Avenue West well-involved shortly before 1:30 a.m. Oct. 20, 2018. South Jersey Man Killed Himself, Officer Who Fired Weapon Only Grazed Him, Grand Jury Finds
UPDATE: A Cherry Hill police officer who fired his service weapon at a man who’d just shot himself in a private home last year did nothing wrong, a state grand jury has found. The single shot fired by Officer Jared Fox only grazed Joseph S. Bestic Jr., 63, on Oct. 11, 2022, according to New Jersey Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin. Officers had been called to conduct a welfare check at the home on Chapel Avenue West, the attorney general said. Bestic allowed them in and soon after grabbed a gun and shot himself, Platkin said. Man Shot Dead By Cherry Hill Police Officer: AG
A man was shot and killed by a Cherry Hill police officer Tuesday, Oct. 11, state officials said. The State Attorney General's Office released few details, noting only that the incident occurred around 2 p.m. near the 3000 block of Chapel Avenue West in Cherry Hill. This investigation is being conducted by the Integrity Bureau within the Attorney General’s Office of Public Integrity and Accountability, as is protocol with all police-involved shootings in New Jersey. The investigation is ongoing and no further information is being released at this time.
