Passenger In Single-Car South Jersey Crash Has Died, Driver Charged
A passenger in a one-vehicle crash in Salem County has died of their injuries, authorities said.
The vehicle struck a tree and the front-seat passenger, Merna Ramon Gonzalez, 20, of Bridgeton, was fatally injured last month. She was airlifted to Cooper University Hospital, Camden, and died on Dec. 5, New Jersey State Police said.
Meldin R. Sebastian Alvarez, 21, of Bridgeton, was driving a car northbound on Bridgeton Road (Route 614) in Upper Pittsgrove Township shortly after 2 p.m. on Nov. 29, when the vehicle ran off the roadway, according to State Police.

A 53-year-old ex-convict admitted possessing fentanyl and weapons, authorities said.
Anthony Johnson, of Bridgeton, pleaded guilty in Superior Court on Thursday, Nov. 17 to an indictment charging him with the unlawful possession of fentanyl and certain persons not to possess firearms, according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office.

Two men from Cumberland County have been found guilty in the shooting death of a 9-year-old girl, authorities said.
Michael Elliot, 29, and Zahmere McKoy, 23, both of Bridgeton, were found guilty after a five-week trial, according to Cumberland County Prosecutor Jennifer Webb-McRae.
The jury returned a guilty verdict on Wednesday, Oct. 26,, on charges of conspiracy to commit murder and reckless manslaughter, she said.

U.S. Marshals are searching for a fugitive in the killing of an innocent bystander, authorities said.
Herbert R. Lee Jr., 36, of Bridgeton, was shot to death July 30 while trying to break up a fight at Maplewood Gardens apartments. He was survived by six children, a fiancée and a sister.
Police identified the shooter as Ryan A. Askins, 29, of Bridgeton, who remains at large. Another armed man involved in the fight was charged with a weapons offense.

A South Jersey man has been indicted in the shooting death of a teenage mother during a home invasion, NJ Advance Media reported.
Aaliyah Eubanks, 19, of Bridgeton, was killed overnight on May 16, 2021, as three intruders entered her Burlington Manor apartment, the outlet said, citing police.
In May, Donavan E. Watts, 36, of Millville, was charged with murder and conspiracy to commit murder, police said.
Police were searching for additional suspects, according to the report.

Two men from South Jersey have been indicted in the fatal shooting of a teenage boy, NJ Advance Media reported.
Deshawn T. Bowen, 23, of Bridgeton, and Rohdane E. Watson, Jr., 18, of Vineland, were charged by a grand jury in the fatal May 26 shooting of Anthony Torres-Sanchez, 15, of Vineland, the outlet said.
