A former corrections officer in Leesburg will spend more than a year in prison after admitting to not stopping attacks against two inmates, authorities said. Joshua Hand, 35, of Millville, was sentenced on Tuesday, Nov. 5 to 20 months in prison, New Jersey's U.S. Attorney Philip Sellinger said in a news release. The dump truck driver accused of passing through a stop sign in a fatal crash in Cumberland County has been formally cited, authorities said on Tuesday, July 2. A 43-year-old inmate at Bayside State Prison has been charged in the death of another inmate, authorities said. Bruce Duette, who was an inmate during the alleged fatal assault, was charged on Tuesday, March 7, according to Cumberland County Prosecutor Jennifer Webb-McRae. On Nov. 21, 2022, Martin Sanchez, 41, an inmate at Bayside State Prison, was found unresponsive in his cell with apparent trauma to the head and face, the prosecutor said. Escaped Prisoner Captured In South Jersey: Police
A New Jersey state prisoner was captured within a few hours of his escape, authorities said. The escape occurred early Thursday from Bayside State Prison, located off Route 47 in Maurice River, Cumberland County, initial reports said. Multiple New Jersey State Police K-9 units were called to help search the region, but did not have to be deployed, a State Police spokesman said. The prisoner was located and was in custody by 10 a.m., the spokesman said.
