: Cool-Headed NJ Dispatcher Talks Barricaded Man Out Of House
A personable police dispatcher convinced a barricaded Dumont man to surrender after a SWAT team and police from multiple departments converged on his block, authorities said. Officers from Dumont initially responded to the First Street home following a 911 call from the 33-year-old First Street resident late Tuesday morning, Police Chief Brian Joyce said. Deadly Levels Of CO Overcome Dumont Couple
Two Dumont residents who were overcome by carbon monoxide gas were rescued by responders. Both were taken to Englewood Hospital and Medical Center after police, firefighters and EMS members responded to the Niagara Street home shortly before 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. The male resident was revived by CPR and brought to the hospital's Intensive Care Unit, responders said. The female resident was transferred to the Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx, they said. UPDATE: Four Dumont High School science teachers were suspended for anti-gay remarks about a female colleague during a Zoom class. The teachers will continue to be paid as an investigation continues, with possible disciplinary penalties to follow, they said.
