Bicyclist, 35, Critically Injured In Jersey Shore Hit-And-Run: Prosecutors A woman was critically injured in a hit-and-run crash in Lakewood, authorities said. The 35-year-old bicyclist was struck by a vehicle, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer said in a news release on Wednesday, Nov. 6. Lakewood police responded to the crash at the intersection of Maplehurst Avenue and Cross Street at around 7:15 p.m. Officers found the victim in the road suffering from serious bodily injuries.  Paramedics rushed the woman to Jersey Shore University Medical Center. Rescuers Save Adult, Two Kids Swimming In Ocean Grove After Sunset Three swimmers were rescued while in the water after sunset in Ocean Grove, officials said. Rescuers were called to a swimmer in distress near the pier at the Main Avenue beach at around 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 28, the ANSWER team said in a Facebook post. The report was quickly upgraded to three swimmers in distress. When emergency crews arrived, they saw the three swimmers screaming for help. Air Force Firefighter, RWJ Paramedic Who Died Of Leukemia Saved First Life At 10 Robert J Conklin III, a New Jersey first responder and Air Force veteran, died on Monday, Aug. 12. He was 39 years old. Robert's mother, Arlene Savarese, said that he died of leukemia. Savarese said her son saved his first life at just 10 years old, when he performed the Heimlich maneuver on his aunt.  "The rest of the path was set for him," Savarese said. Robert went on to serve as a firefighter in the United States Air Force, helping to evacuate Afghanistan in 2021.
