The incident occurred at about 1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 24 west of Porchtown Road in Pittsgrove Township, according to the NJDOT. All lanes were closed in both directions, 511nj.org reported. Pedestrian Struck By Vehicle, Killed In South Jersey A pedestrian was hit and killed while crossing Route 40 in Atlantic County, authorities said. State troopers responded to a crash at 1113 Harding Highway in Buena just before 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 17, the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office announced. Investigators said a black 2017 Hyundai was driving east on Route 40 before hitting a pedestrian who was crossing the road. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the crash scene. Jackknifed Tractor-Trailer Closes Route 40 In South Jersey Route 40 was closed for more than two hours Monday after a tractor-trailer jackknifed, authorities said. The crash occurred at milepost 7.7 on Route 1 near Jill Road in Pilesgrove Township, Salem County, just before noon, according to a New Jersey State Police spokesman. The roadway was shut down for the removal of the tractor-trailer and reopened at about 2 p.m., State Police said. No injuries were reported.  Verizon responded to work on damage to utility wires.
