A utility pole is down closing Route 40 in Salem County, authorities said. The incident occurred at about 1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 24 west of Porchtown Road in Pittsgrove Township, according to the NJDOT. All lanes were closed in both directions, 511nj.org reported. Check back for updates.

Pedestrian Struck By Vehicle, Killed In South Jersey
A pedestrian was hit and killed while crossing Route 40 in Atlantic County, authorities said. State troopers responded to a crash at 1113 Harding Highway in Buena just before 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 17, the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office announced. Investigators said a black 2017 Hyundai was driving east on Route 40 before hitting a pedestrian who was crossing the road. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the crash scene. Serious Crash Closes South Jersey Roadways: Police
A serious crash in Hamilton Township has closed two roadways, Hamilton police said. The crash occurred early Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 21 at Millville and Pittsburgh avenues. Traffic was being diverted to Route 40 from Avenue of the Pines and Baker Avenue, police said. CHECK BACK FOR UPDATES

Atlantic City is getting $20 million to reconstruct and raise Route 40 as it approaches the city to end flooding that makes the major road and evacuation route dangerous during severe weather, federal officials said. Jackknifed Tractor-Trailer Closes Route 40 In South Jersey
Route 40 was closed for more than two hours Monday after a tractor-trailer jackknifed, authorities said. The crash occurred at milepost 7.7 on Route 1 near Jill Road in Pilesgrove Township, Salem County, just before noon, according to a New Jersey State Police spokesman. The roadway was shut down for the removal of the tractor-trailer and reopened at about 2 p.m., State Police said. No injuries were reported. Verizon responded to work on damage to utility wires.
