Fair Lawn Native, 32, Killed In Route 208 Thanksgiving Day Crash
A 32-year-old driver from Fair Lawn was killed when his car struck a utility pole on Route 208 early Thanksgiving evening. William Hennecke was driving his 2002 Porsche Boxter convertible when it veered off the southbound highway and into a utility pole just past Maple Avenue shortly after 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 23, Fair Lawn police said. Hennecke was pronounced dead at the scene, they said. An investigation was continuing. UPDATE: An overnight stolen vehicle chase ended in a crash that sent a Paramus police officer to the hospital, three Newark thieves to jail and two department cruisers to the shop, authorities said. Police from Saddle River and Hillsdale began pursuing a stolen 2022 Mercedes GLS 450 and a tandem vehicle shortly after midnight Thursday, Oct. 13, Paramus Police Chief Kenneth Ehrenberg said. A stolen luxury SUV that rolled as a good Samaritan chased it had been stolen moments earlier by two teens who'd broken into the owner's Paramus home, authorities said. An auto detailer who was working at the Hasse Avenue home at the time chased the Newark pair Friday afternoon as they sped off in the 2020 X-5, which had been taken from the garage after the pair entered the house and apparently found the keys. The driver of a stolen Jeep hit a median, a curb, some bushes and a tree before Paramus police took him into custody, authorities said. And they weren't even chasing him when he crashed. Officer Nicholas Tanelli tried to stop the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee as it sped down southbound Route 17 shortly after 1:30 a.m. Thursday, April 7, Police Chief Kenneth Ehrenberg said.
