Bridgeton Driver Hits Multiple Trees, Dies In Route 55 Deptford Crash: Njsp
A 30-year-old driver from Cumberland County was killed when he struck multiple trees in a crash along Roure 55 in Gloucester County, authorities said.
Troopers responded to the crash at 11:10 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6 near milepost 59 in Deptford Township, according to New Jersey State Police spokesman Troy McNair.
Killed in the crash was Shaquile Banks, of Bridgeton, MnNair said.
Based on a preliminary investigation, Banks lost directional control of his Honda, ran off the roadway to the left, and subsequently struck multiple trees, McNair said.

Wild Ride: Driver Drags Police Officer, Strikes Pedestrian At Wawa In South Jersey
A 40-year-old Cumberland County took police on a wild pursuit that included dragging a police officer with his car and striking a pedestrian at a Wawa, authorities said.
The driver, Jacob D. Griffiths, 40, of Bridgeton, ultimately was charged with multiple counts of eluding, aggravated assault, obstruction and hindering apprehension, according to the Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office.
The pursuit started on Bluebird Lane in Millville at about 9 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28 when an officer was investigating a report of a robbery in Vineland.

Driver, 29, Killed In Head-On Route 77 Crash In Cumberland County
A 29-year-old man from Cumberland County was killed in a head-on crash along Route 77, authorities said.
Troopers responded to the crash at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28 southbound in Upper Deerfield Township, according to Troy McNair, a New Jersey State Police spokesman.
Dakota Kott, of Upper Deerfield Township, was killed in the crash, Trooper McNair said.
Kott was driving a 2017 Nissan passenger car south on Route 77 and a 2016 Nissan passenger car was traveling northbound near milepost 5, McNair said.

Claudia J. Smith-Heard, 51, of Millville, was accused of aggressive behavior to get a 4-year-old boy to take a nap on his first day of child care at Golden Gate center on Nov. 1, 2021, according to an affidavit of probable cause filed by Vineland police.
A jury found Smith-Heard not guilty on all counts on Wednesday, Feb. 21 after a trial, according to Crystal Harris, criminal division manager.

A Cumberland County man shot an alleged home invader dead and then was arrested himself for owning ghost guns, authorities said.
A ghost gun is a firearm without a serial number.
Troopers responded Monday, Feb. 19, at approximately 7:15 pm, to a residence on Old Deerfield Pike in Upper Deerfield Township for a burglary in progress with a gunshot victim, New Jersey State Police said.

A youth sports coach from Cumberland County has been indicted on charges that he sexually assaulted two teenage boys, authorities said.
Robert R. Marino, 73, of Bridgeton, was arrested on July 3, 2023, on charges related to an alleged incident involving a 16-year-old boy, they said.
