Family and friends are mourning the loss of a teenager killed in a single-vehicle crash. Jorge Soriano Castelan of Bridgeton was killed on Dec. 2 when his car veered off Route 55 in Vineland and struck a tree, as previously reported by Daily Voice. A GoFundMe launched for Castelan's funeral had raised more than $1,500 as of Thursday, Dec. 14. Trenton native and dedicated father Marquis C. Carr, Jr. died following a “tragic accident” on Friday, Oct. 21. He was 22. Born in Trenton, Marquis attended Trenton public schools before graduating from Bridgeton High School, his obituary says. He started working as a farmer at age 16 before becoming employed with Tyson Chicken and later with Central Waste & Recycling. Substitute Teacher Pay Rate Doubles Amid COVID Driven Staffing Shortages In This NJ District
Substitute teaching pay has more than doubled in a South Jersey school district this year due to staff shortages, NJ Advance Media repotted, citing school sources. When the Bridgeton school year began in September, subs were making just $90, the outlet said. Then, the daily pay rate for subs increased to $135 a day. The Bridgeton School Board recently voted to raise the daily pay rate for subs even higher: $200.
