Camden County, State Launch Initiative To Reduce Fatal Crashes On White Horse Pike
The Camden County Prosecutor’s Office and the New Jersey Attorney General are set to launch a traffic safety initiative to cut down on crashes and improve pedestrian safety along the White Horse Pike. Last year, there were seven fatal crashes on the state highway. These crashes resulted in eight deaths with five being pedestrians and one being a bicyclist, the county said. According to the New Jersey Department of Transportation, there have been 11,251 crashes on the White Horse Pike since 2010. Of these crashes, 3,894 caused injuries and 80 were fatal. A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle in Waterford Township, authorities said. It marked the fourth fatal pedestrian crash in Waterford since Thanksgiving, according to prior news reports. The most recent pedestrian fatality was at about 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26 on Old White Horse Pike, according to New Jersey State Police statistics. Waterford police declined to release any details about Friday's crash. Absecon Man Killed Crossing Major Intersection Wasn't In Crosswalk: Police
A 50-year-old man died after being struck by a car on White Horse Pike in January, authorities said. Samuel Bayley, of Absecon, was struck while crossing the street by a 2008 Hyundai Tucson heading east at the intersection with Haddon Avenue around 6 p.m., Jan. 24, local police said. Bayley was not in the crosswalk, which was a contributing factor in the crash, authorities said. The roadway was reduced to one lane for approximately four hours while the crash was investigated. Unlicensed Teen Driver Charged In Deadly Head-On White Horse Pike Crash: Police
Hammonton Police have arrested an 18-year-old male who they say was driving without a license when he caused a head-on crash killing one of his passengers. On Sunday night, Frederico Cano was traveling west on White Horse Pike with two passengers in his car when he cut off a pickup truck to turn into the ShopRite parking lot, police said in a statement. The pickup truck, which was traveling eastbound, then slammed into the side of Cano’s car.
