Fair Lawn Native, 32, Killed In Route 208 Thanksgiving Day Crash
A 32-year-old driver from Fair Lawn was killed when his car struck a utility pole on Route 208 early Thanksgiving evening. William Hennecke was driving his 2002 Porsche Boxter convertible when it veered off the southbound highway and into a utility pole just past Maple Avenue shortly after 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 23, Fair Lawn police said. Hennecke was pronounced dead at the scene, they said. An investigation was continuing. Fair Lawn police evacuated a local synagogue and the immediate area after a caller claimed to have planted two pipe bombs there. The Thursday night incident comes with Rosh Hashana about to begin at sundown Friday, Sept. 15 -- and amid a frightening nationwide increase of anti-Semitic "swatting" calls. Three workers handling a job on a cellphone tower were rescued by Fair Lawn firefighters after their lift got stuck.
