Man In Wheelchair Struck, Killed In Salem County
A 79-year-old man in a wheelchair was struck and killed by a car in Salem County, authorities said. Chester Avant, of Pedricktown, died from his injuries, according to New Jersey State Police. State Troopers were called to the intersection of New Road and Pennsville Pedtricktown Road in Oldmans Township at about 4:15 a.m. Monday, April 15, said Sgt. Jeffrey Lebron, a NJSP spokesman. A Buick was northbound on the Pennsville Pedricktown Road when it struck Avant, Lebron said. Lebron said no one else was injured. The incident remains under investigation.

Man, 39, Dies In South Jersey Fire, 2nd Person Escapes
Authorities have identified a 39-year-old man killed in a Salem County fire. The deceased was identified as Andres Gutierrez, of Oldmans Township, according to New Jersey State Police. The fire broke out at 12:33 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 11 at Porch Farms, Pennsville-Pedricktown Road in Oldmans Township, State Police said. Based on the preliminary investigation, a residential structure on the property caught fire resulting in the death of an occupant inside a bedroom. Fatal Fire Investigated In South Jersey
An unidentified person was killed in a house fire in Salem County, authorities said. The fire broke out at 12:33 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 11 on Pennsville-Pedricktown Road in Oldmans Township, New Jersey State Police said. A State Police spokesman confirmed there was a fatality, but the victim’s name had not been released. “The fire is under investigation and there are no additional details available at this time,” said Sgt. Philip Curry.
