Officer Lucas Brito did nothing wrong in pursuing ex-con Altonia Williams -- who was believed to be armed – while responding to a call of a home invasion shortly before 4 a.m. last Aug. 14, the panel found. UPDATE: A passenger in a vehicle fleeing a home invasion died after a collision with a Long Branch police cruiser driven by an officer responding to the call, authorities said. The call of an armed break-in on Elmwood Avenue near MacArthur Avenue came in at 3:59 a.m. Monday, Aug. 14, New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin said Tuesday. Toms River Pedestrian, 61, Airlifted After Being Struck By Car
A 61-year-old pedestrian from Toms River was critically hurt when he was struck by a car while crossing the road, authorities said. On Monday at 4:58 p.m., police were dispatched to the intersection of Vaughn and Windsor avenues for a reported pedestrian struck. Carl Cereghini, 61 of Toms River, entered the roadway in an attempt to cross when he was struck by a vehicle traveling north on Vaughn Avenue, police said.
