District IDs Maple Shade Bus Driver, Army Vet Killed By Bus The Maple Shade school district is mourning the loss of Jack Hohwald, an 85-year-old bus driver who was killed when he was struck by another bus on Tuesday, Jan. 28. The fatal crash happened at Maple Shade High School when Hohwald stepped outside of his vehicle and was struck by another school bus, sustaining fatal injuries, according to Maple Shade police. The driver of the striking bus, also a district employee, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. No charges have been filed at this time, authorities said. High School Swimmer ID'd As 16-Year-Old Killed In South Jersey Crash The 16-year-old girl killed in a weekend South Jersey crash has been identified as a high school athlete. Sophia Bennett was killed in the two-car crash on Friday, March 22, at the intersection of Hurffville Road and Deptford Center Road just after 8 p.m., according to police and school officials.
