One ex-con was sentenced to a plea-bargained 8½ years in federal prison and another a little more than seven -- both without parole -- for shooting a taxi driver during a late-night robbery in Elizabeth. City police nabbed Naeem Jackson, 24, of East Orange, and Walter Williams-Lang, 22, of Elizabeth, but the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Newark took the case because of the government’s ability to secure much harsher penalties than under state law. One of two defendants publicly identified for the first time in the shooting of a New Jersey State Police detective in Paterson earlier this year once deliberately gunned down a 16-year-old boy, records show. Tajshmer Johnson and Queenasia McFarlane, both 30, were named in a state grand jury indictment returned Tuesday, July 25, that charges Jocquise Timmons, 28, with the NJSP shooting in early March. Ex-Convict Sentenced For Illegal Firearms In South Jersey
A 31-year-old ex-convict from Pleasantville has been sentenced to five years in New Jersey State Prison for possessing a firearms, authorities said. Rasul Palmer will have to serve the whole sentence without parole eligibility, according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office. Palmer had pleaded guilty to certain person not to possess firearms, the prosecutor said. A fleeing driver who wielded a firearm during an argument had a gun under her seat and another under her passenger's -- both loaded -- when she was stopped by Haledon police, authorities said. Leah Ruggerio, 29, "brandished a handgun and aimed it at another" during an unspecified dispute in the area of North 4th Street and Haledon Avenue in Paterson, Capt. George Guzman said. Life Sentence For Trenton Man Convicted Of Murder, Prosecutor Says
A Trenton man convicted of murder will spend life behind bars, authorities announced Tuesday. Hamilton Morgan was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole on Thursday, Feb. 17, the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office said. Atlantic City Man Arrested With Loaded Gun, Cocaine
Police working a traffic detail arrested an Atlantic City man for possession of a loaded handgun and cocaine, authorities said. On Tuesday, Feb. 8 at 9:17 a.m., Detectives Anthony Abrams and Jaimee Moore were at the intersection of Pennsylvania and Atlantic Avenues when Abrams noticed Jamil Hunter walk past him westbound on Atlantic Avenue near a Walgreens Pharmacy, police said.
