A helicopter operated out of an Essex County facility made an emergency landing at a Jersey Shore school field Thursday, March 14, authorities said. The commercial passenger helicopter operated by Zip Aviation of Caldwell touched down on a baseball field behind Middletown High School North, adjacent to Marvin Road, Middletown police said. Ahmed Awais, of Florida, was headed to Lancaster Airport in PA, and had just departed from Dulles Airport with Southern Airways Express Flight 246, when the plane went down in the DIREX lanes near Arcola Mills Drive, around 12:15 p.m., according to the FAA and local authorities.
