Bomb Threat Forces Evacuation Of Fair Lawn Synagogue Amid Nationwide Rise In 'Swatting' Calls
Fair Lawn police evacuated a local synagogue and the immediate area after a caller claimed to have planted two pipe bombs there. The Thursday night incident comes with Rosh Hashana about to begin at sundown Friday, Sept. 15 -- and amid a frightening nationwide increase of anti-Semitic "swatting" calls. It happened three times in Bergen County this past week. Hackensack High School was targeted twice, once prompting a brief evacuation and another time a shelter-in-place. It happened again on Friday, April 1 at Ridgewood High School. "A male caller called the main police number spoke with central dispatch…

Authorities searched Bergenfield's middle school and the home of a 13-year-old boy who they said posted threatening Snap Chat messages. The messages "detailed a school bombing and school shooting" at the Roy Brown Middle School last Friday, Detective Lt. William Duran said Thursday. A shelter-in-place immediately went into effect at the Washington Avenue school that day after the messages were received, Duran said. The Bergen County Sheriff's Bomb Squad and K9 Unit were among the responders. "A sweep of the school and search of the juvenile's home were conducted with nothing found to indi…
