Barbed Fish Injures Jersey Shore Swimmer: Beach Patrol
A man was injured by what appeared to be a ray's tail at a beach in Ventnor City, officials said. The man suffered a hand injury at around 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 25, the Ventnor City Beach Patrol said. He received first-aid treatment at the scene. The injury was not confirmed to be from a shark bite and was likely caused by a skate, which is a type of ray with barbs on its tail. Several sharks have been spotted off the coast of Cape May in recent weeks, according to reports. A shark was spotted near the beach in Cape May Point at around 3 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 5, 6abc Action News reported. One beachgoer said the shark was about six feet long. Lightning Strike Confirmed Cause Of Death For 59-Year-Old 'Cowboy Hero' On NJ Beach
A Toms River man died from a lightning strike on an Ocean County beach, authorities said. A Seaside Park Police Department spokesperson confirmed to Daily Voice that 59-year-old Patrick Dispoto's cause of death was accidental and caused by a lightning strike. He was found unconscious on the beach near J Street at around 7:38 p.m. on Sunday, June 23. Police said Dispoto had no visible signs of injuries. The death of a 69-year-old man visiting a Point Pleasant beach could have been avoided if the beach owner had warned about dangerous water conditions, a lawsuit alleges. The Bridgewater lawyer filing the suit says she doesn't think there is any correlation between her legal action and Jenkinson's decision this week to lock off its privately-owned beaches. A 15-year-old girl from Pennsylvania was bitten by a shark while surfing off the Jersey Shore, authorities said. The shark bite occurred off Stone Harbor's 109th Street Beach, around 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 21, Stone Harbor officials said. PA Dad Dies, Son Rescued Swimming In Ocean City: Report
A 56-year-old Pennsylvania dad drowned and his son was rescued by lifeguards after trying to save him while swimming off Ocean City, NJ, 6abc reports.
