Two Whales Found Dead Along Jersey Shore Coast, Marine Biologists Say Two whales were found dead along the Jersey Shore about 24 hours apart, officials said. A dead minke whale was found off the coast of Sandy Hook in the Raritan and Lower bays on Thursday, Oct. 3, the Marine Mammal Stranding Center (MMSC) said in a news release. The whale was estimated to be between 16 and 18 feet long. The Coast Guard first notified the Atlantic Marine Conservation Society (AMSEAS) and MMSC about the whale. The Monica commercial fishing vessel became disabled due to transmission issues at around 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 27, the Coast Guard said in a news release. A 47-foot motor lifeboat from the Coast Guard station in Barnegat Light began heading towards the Monica. The display by the 305th Air Mobility Wing includes a 15-jet formation of tankers and giant cargo planes over the Jersey Shore and Delaware River.
