Union Beach Officer Killed When He Struck Telephone Pole
An off-duty Union Beach police officer was killed when he struck a telephone pole, authorities said. Detective Cpl. Timothy Kelly, Jr., 29, died in the crash. He was described as a "rising star" by his department. The single motor vehicle crash occurred at 1:57 a.m. on Sunday, July 17 on State Highway 36 West just past Grand Avenue, according to Atlantic Highlands police.
