At 4:40 a.m., police officers spotted a gray Honda Civic with tinted windows and no front license plate at the Exxon gas station on the 397 Springfield Ave., Newark Public Safety Director Eugene Miranda said. The officers checked the rear plate, P97NUW, and discovered it was fictitious as the suspect drove from the gas station, Miranda said.
