At 8:11 a.m., officers responded to a resident near Union High School who reported finding a fanny pack in the bushes near Stahuber Drive, Township of Union police said. Officers responded and determined the fanny pack had a loaded Smith and Weston 380 handgun in it, police said.
Detectives also responded to the scene and located a home that had an exterior camera and they were able to view the footage that showed two students hiding the fanny pack, police said.
Officers went to Union High School and notified the principal of their investigation and the school was placed into lockdown, police said. Officers played the video for the school staff and the school resource officer and they were able to identify the two students who left the gun hidden in the bushes, police said.
The students, Woodeberlens Audies, a 19-year-old Union resident and a 17-year-old were arrested, police said. They are being charged with the illegal possession of the handgun and possession of a handgun that was defaced, police said.
Police said they are increasing patrols in the area of the school and will have extra officers in the area in case there are any other calls or problems.
