Man Broke Into Newark Jewelry Store With Hammer: Police A man is at large after he broke into a Newark jewelry store using a hammer on Friday, Sept, 6, authorities said. At noon,  the suspect walked up to Vinhas Jewelry at 87 Ferry St. and broke the store’s front window with a small black hammer, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said. The suspect, a Black male in his late 30s, reached through the small hole he created and grabbed several pieces of jewelry before fleeing, Fragé said. Man Gets Lengthy Sentence For Christmas Homicide A 40-year-old Newark man whose case happened in the midst of an overhaul of New Jersey's criminal justice system was sentenced on Monday, July 22, to 68 years in prison for  2016 Christmas morning killing, authorities said. Habeeb Robinson was convicted in June of aggravated manslaughter, weapons possession and witness tampering in the death of Hassan Cobb-Jones, a 32-year-old Newark resident, Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens, II said.
