17-Year-Old Swimmer Brings Newark Police To Passaic River: Cops A 17-year-old was swimming in the Passaic River on the morning of Tuesday, Sept. 10, authorities said. At 7:50 a.m., Newark police responded to Bridge Street and McCarter Highway on a report of the teen in the water, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said. Police made contact with the swimmer when he emerged from the water, Fragé said. The swimmer is reportedly uninjured, Fragé said. This incident remains under investigation, Fragé said.

The body of Orlando Chamorro, who had been reported missing out of North Arlington on Friday, Aug. 2, was recovered from the Passaic River on Monday, Aug. 5, Essex County Assistant Prosecutor Thomas Fennelley said. The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Task Force responded to Main Street and the Belleville Turnpike on reports of a body in the water that morning, where firefighters made the recovery, Fennelley said. Body Of Missing Swimmer Recovered From Passaic River, Police Say A body was recovered from the Passaic River on the morning of Friday, June 28, authorities said. At 10:38 a.m., police responded to the Passaic River near Red Bull Stadium on a report of a body floating in the water, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said. Police located the body near Riverbank Park at Raymond Boulevard and Brill Street, Fragé said.  The victim is a male swimmer who had not surfaced since entering the water at 4:25 p.m. on Wednesday, June 26, Fragé said.
