3-Alarm Fire Rips Through Irvington Homes, Smoke Billows For Miles
Nine families were displaced and one person was injured in a three-alarm fire that ripped through Irvington rowhomes Tuesday evening, Oct. 15, police said, The fire broke out in a vacant residential building at 71 Montgomery Street and spread to multiple other homes around 5 p.m., Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said. The fire occurred on the border of Irvington and Newark. A third alarm was called at 5:26 p.m. as the fire extended to other homes. 17-Year-Old Swimmer Brings Newark Police To Passaic River: Cops
A 17-year-old was swimming in the Passaic River on the morning of Tuesday, Sept. 10, authorities said. At 7:50 a.m., Newark police responded to Bridge Street and McCarter Highway on a report of the teen in the water, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said. Police made contact with the swimmer when he emerged from the water, Fragé said. The swimmer is reportedly uninjured, Fragé said. This incident remains under investigation, Fragé said.

Two Firefighters Injured In Two-Alarm Newark Blaze: Authorities
Two firefighters were injured battling a two-alarm fire in Newark on Monday, July 22, authorities said. At 8:10 a.m., firefighters responded to a fire in the basement at 76 Barbara St., an occupied 3-story building, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said. A 2nd alarm was called, requesting additional firefighters to the scene to help stop the spread of a fire to an adjacent building, Fragé said. Man Shot In Newark: Police
A man was shot in Newark on the afternoon of Sunday May 26, authorities said. At 1 p.m., police responded to Irvine Turner Boulevard and Marie Place and found a man who had been shot, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said. He was transported to University Hospital and is in stable condition, Fragé said. The shooting remains under investigation, Fragé said.

Shots Fired Near Two Newark Schools: Police
Gunshots were fired near Newark schools on the afternoon of Monday, May 20, authorities said. At 3:35 p.m., police responded to South 11th Street and South Orange Avenue on a report of shots fired, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said. KIPP Rise Academy, a charter school for students from 5th grade to 8th grade, and West Side High School are located minutes from the shooting location. Police did not locate any gunshot victims, Fragé said. The investigation is ongoing, Fragé said.
