Power Restored To Whiting After 5,200+ People Left In The Cold And Dark An overloaded power grid failed under the strain of freezing temperatures, knocking out power for more than 5,000 people in Whiting two days before Christmas, authorities said. Nearly 6,000 customers lost electricity on Monday, Dec. 23, and the vast majority were in Manchester Township. The outages began around 8 a.m. as daytime temperatures hovered at 23 degrees and plunged to the low teens overnight. Two Women Hospitalized After Car Runs Stop Sign, Crashes In South Jersey: Police Two women were hospitalized, including one who was airlifted, after their cars crashed in Ocean County, authorities said. Berkeley Township police responded to the crash at the intersection of Jamaica Boulevard and Bimini Drive at 9:15 a.m. on Wednesday, July 3, the department said in a news release. Officers found a tan Toyota Camry and a white Honda Civic with heavy damage. Investigators said the Toyota was heading west on Jamaica and failed to stop at a stop sign. The Toyota entered the intersection and was hit in the driver's door by the Honda, which was traveling north on Bimini. …

Man Killed, Wife Seriously Injured When Tow Truck Hits Motorcycle In South Jersey: Police A Plumsted Township man was killed and his wife was seriously injured when a tow truck hit their motorcycle, authorities said. Jackson Township police responded to the crash on Hawkin Road at around 3:16 p.m. on Thursday, June 27, Chief Matthew Kunz said in an email.  Erin Doyle, 53, of New Egypt, was pronounced dead at the scene. His 47-year-old wife was airlifted to a trauma center with a serious leg injury. Investigators said Doyle and his wife were heading north on a 1998 Harley-Davidson motorcycle.
