Whale Washes Up On NJ Beach
A whale washed up along the Delaware Bay in Lower Township, New Jersey, on Tuesday, Dec. 3, authorities said. The incident was first reported around 3 p.m. on Sunset Beach along the 500 block of Sunset Boulevard. A Lower Township mother will spend several years in prison after admitting to drinking more than a dozen miniature vodka bottles before her infant son suffocated in bed, authorities said. Michelle Stanton, 29, was sentenced to four years in state prison, Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey Sutherland said in a news release on Thursday, Nov. 21. A popular bridge for Cape May and Wildwood travelers has reopened just a few days after officials feared it could be closed for much longer. An important bridge helping travelers reach Cape May could be shut down for many weeks, officials said. The Middle Thorofare Bridge in Lower Township was closed to drivers, walkers, and bicyclists, the Cape May County government said in a news alert on Sunday, Aug. 18. Man Fell Off Pontoon In Cape May County, Gashed By Boat's Propeller: State Police
A man was hospitalized after he was hit by a pontoon boat's propeller in Cape May County, authorities said. A state police spokesperson said the 51-year-old man fell off the front of the pontoon when it hit a large wake in Lower Township at around 7:35 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 3. The propeller gashed open the man's stomach and one of his arms. He was rushed to a nearby hospital. The man was expected to survive his injuries, police said.

West Nile, EEE Detected In Eight Mosquito Groups In South Jersey
Cape May County leaders are issuing a warning after eight mosquito groups tested positive for West Nile virus and eastern equine encephalitis. Seven mosquito collections tested positive for West Nile and EEE was detected in another during June and July, the Cape May County Department of Health said in a news release on Monday, July 22.
