Sundown Swimmers At Unguarded NJ Beach Rescued
Three swimmers were rescued while in the water after sunset in Ocean Grove, officials said. Rescuers were called to a swimmer in distress near the pier at the Main Avenue beach at around 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 28, the ANSWER team said in a Facebook post. The report was quickly upgraded to three swimmers in distress. When emergency crews arrived, they saw the three swimmers screaming for help. Lightning Strike Causes Fire At Turtle Back Zoo, Officials Say
A North Jersey zoo erupted in flames after being struck by lightning on Wednesday, Aug. 28, officials said. West Orange responders got a call from the Turtle Back Zoo saying its Sea Turtle Recovery Building had been struck by lightning around 9:45 p.m., a spokesperson for the town said. Firefighters and police officers responded and put out the blaze. Essex County Sherriff officers were on scene as well.

A young Vineland mother was killed by her ex-boyfriend in a murder-suicide, according to her family. A GoFundMe page said Mary Rodriguez died just days after celebrating her 21st birthday. Small Plane Crashes In Sussex
A small plane crashed in Sussex County on Tuesday night, Aug. 27, authorities said. According to the FAA, a single-engine Champion Citabria crashed in Sussex around 7 p.m. New Jersey State Police said the plane crashed into a tree line on Main Street due to a fuel issue. The pilot suffered minor injuries and was hospitalized. Only the pilot was on board. The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate. The NTSB will lead the investigation and will provide any updates.

The body of a 31-year-old man was pulled from a vehicle that had plunged into the Delaware Raritan Canal over the weekend, police said. Police were called to Canal and Grouser roads on Saturday, Aug. 24 around 12:25 p.m. after a kayaker saw a 2024 Honda Civic in the river, Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald said. A Florida man was accused of pulling a knife on a customer at an upscale Rumson restaurant during an argument over spilled wine, authorities said. A 40-year-old Phillipsburg man is facing charges for using a 3D printer to manufacture a firearm and ammunition, authorities said. A search of Michael Weaver's home on Monday, Aug. 26, turned up two 3D printers, a 9mm handgun, thousands of rounds of multi-caliber ammunition, and equipment to manufacture such ammunition, Acting Warren County Prosecutor Anthony Picione said. Weaver has been charged with manufacturing a firearm using a 3D printer; unlawful possession of a weapon; and certain person not to have a weapon or ammunition.

A New Jersey man's body was discovered in the Delaware River, authorities said. The 39-year-old Lakewood man was found dead in Bushkill, Pennsylvania, on Monday, Aug. 26, a National Park Service spokesperson said in a news release. Teen Airlifted In UTV Accident On Sussex County Farm: Police
An 18-year-old male was airlifted to the hospital following a crash on a Sussex County farm on Monday, Aug. 26, local police said. The male was riding on the back of the UTV, a larger type of ATV, which was being used to perform work on a farm on Layton Lane in Sparta, Sparta Police Capt. Tom Snyder said. The UTV made an unexpected turn and the victim lost his balance, falling off and hitting his head, Snyder said. He lost consciousness and was flown to the hospital. "The operator of the UTV was fully cooperative with patrol units and showed no signs of intoxication," Snyder said.
