$12M Bridge Work To Close Portions Of Route 280: Here's Where Drivers heading across the Passaic River on Route 280 between Morris and Essex counties should expect overnight delays next week as a major $12 million construction project gets underway, officials said. Beginning 10 p.m. Monday, July 21, through 6 a.m. Tuesday, July 22, crews will close lanes in both directions on I-280 between East Hanover and Roseland. Nightly closures will continue through Thursday, July 24, the New Jersey Department of Transportation said. At least one lane will remain open in each direction. Newark First Responders Rescue Man From Passaic River: Police A 23-year-old man was rescued after falling into the Passaic River in Newark on Saturday, Nov. 2, authorities said. At 10:22 p.m., first responders went to the Passaic River at Jersey Street and Raymond Boulevard on a call of a man in the water, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said. The victim was safely rescued and transported to University Hospital for treatment, Fragé said.  He is reportedly in stable condition, Fragé said.

At 7:50 a.m., Newark police responded to Bridge Street and McCarter Highway on a report of the teen in the water, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said. Police made contact with the swimmer when he emerged from the water, Fragé said. The swimmer is reportedly uninjured, Fragé said. This incident remains under investigation, Fragé said.
