Man Airlifted After Fireworks Explode Groin Inside Apartment: Police A man suffered serious injuries when a firework detonated in his lap inside an apartment on Long Island, police announced on Sunday, Dec. 21. John Philpotts-Kerr, 65, was handling fireworks inside his East Patchogue apartment in the 130 block of Pine Neck Avenue around 5:40 p.m. when one suddenly exploded, injuring his groin, according to police. Philpotts-Kerr was airlifted by medevac helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of serious physical injuries. No other injuries were reported, police said.
