ATM Stolen From Maplewood Business: Police
An ATM was taken by burglars from a business in Maplewood on Wednesday, Sept. 11, authorities said. Officers responded to a business on Springfield Avenue business and discovered unknown suspect (s) broke into the business and removed the ATM, Maplewood police said. The ATM was found on Springfield Avenue with the cash removed, police said. The investigation is active and ongoing, police said. Toms River Woman Sentenced In Roommate's Shower Rod, Tape Dispenser Killing: Prosecutors
A Toms River woman will spend at least eight years in prison after admitting to her role in the death of her roommate, a former Manchester High School janitor, authorities said. Mary Carbone, 60, was sentenced on Friday, Sept. 13 to ten years in state prison, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer said in a news release. She must serve eight-and-a-half years before she's eligible for parole under the No Early Release Act. Carbone pleaded guilty on Monday, July 8 to aggravated manslaughter. Man Shot In Newark, Three People Detained: Police
A man was shot in Newark on the evening of Friday, Sept. 13, authorities said. At 7:57 p.m., police responded to the 400 block of South 16th Street on a report of a shooting, and found a man who had been shot, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said. A handgun was also recovered at the scene, Fragé said. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital and is in stable condition, Fragé said. Three suspects were detained in connection with the investigation, Fragé said.

Police have identified the suspected DUI driver who left three people injured while trying to make a U-turn before a crash early Sunday, Sept. 15 on Route 3. Justin R. Latorre, of Newark, has been charged with assault by auto by the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office after his 2022 Ford Ranger collided with a 2018 Honda HRV in the westbound lanes around 5:10 a.m., Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said. Pedestrian Struck, Seriously Injured On Garden State Parkway
A pedestrian was hospitalized with serious injuries after being struck by a camper on the Garden State Parkway, authorities said. The Ford E350 Camper was heading south when it struck the unidentified pedestrian walking in the roadway at milepost 145.2 in Irvington around 8:05 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, New Jersey State Police Sgt. Charles Marchan said. The pedestrian suffered serious injuries and was taken to an area hospital. The crash remains under investigation, and no additional information is available.

A phone call claiming to protect a Long Island resident's savings ended in a $20,000 scam carried out by a 51-year-old New Jersey man, according to authorities. The victim, a 69-year-old New Hyde Park woman, received the call from Tejas Kapur, of Carteret, who falsely identified himself as a Walmart employee, according to Nassau County Police. Kapur told the victim that there was fraudulent activity on her account and that her Social Security number was compromised, authorities said. Newly released bodycam footage shows a July 2024 arrest of a DUI driver with a history of traffic offenses who fled the scene of a crash in Monmouth County. All Lanes Of Route 18 Closed Due To Vehicle Fire, Fluid Spill
