At 8:45 p.m., NJ Transit announced major impacts across multiple rail lines due to weather-related conditions.  Severe flooding left cars underwater with drivers stranded, and thousands without power. Some of those areas include Route 22 in Scotch Plains, local streets in Cranford, Edgewater, and Teaneck, Route 287, and Route 78. The twister in the Oneida County hamlet of Clark Mills had peak estimated winds of 105 miles per hour, traveling 2.43 miles, starting at 3:58 a.m., and ending at 4:03 a.m. Sunday, June 22. Freak Accident Kills Boy, 12, Playing In NJ Backyard: Police A New Jersey boy was killed when a tree fell on him in a backyard, authorities said. Lucas Schwartz, 12, was identified as the victim of the Eldridge Avenue incident in Lawrence Township on a GoFundMe page.  Police said he'd been playing with a friend in the backyard of a home when gusty winds blew the tree over, and it fell onto him around 12:09 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14.  Officers freed Schwartz from under the tree and began CPR. Paramedics rushed Lucas to Capital Health System Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead from his injuries.
