Woman Struck By Vehicle Driven By 85-Year-Old Man: Summit Police A 73-year-old woman was struck by a vehicle in Summit on the afternoon of Wednesday, July 31, authorities said. At 12:45 p.m., the woman was crossing the alleyway at the entrance to the Tier Garage at 426 Springfield Ave. when she was struck by a 2021 Jeep Cherokee driven by an 85-year-old man who was traveling east on Springfield Avenue and turned right into the alleyway leading to the garage, Summit police said in a release. North Jersey Officer Suffers Partial Blindness, Paralysis After Brain Surgery, Campaign Says Brian Werthmann is in the fight for his life and the community is coming together to help. Werthmann, a sergeant in the Summit Police Department, recently underwent an 8-hour surgery to remove a large acoustic neuroma from his brain.  While surgeons were able to successfully remove the tumor from his brain, Werthmann has experienced complications including paralysis on the left side of his body, partial blindness and the inability to walk without assistance.
