Pair Of Tropical Systems Threaten To Become Next Named Storm Of Hurricane Season Forecasters are monitoring a pair of systems in the tropics that could develop into named storms. One system, called Invest 94L, is now in the Central Atlantic, and expected to pass near the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico on Friday, Oct. 18, and then move toward the Turks and Caicos or the Dominican Republic this weekend, according to the National Hurricane Center. There's a chance it could strengthen as it enters warmer waters. Potential New Tropical Storm May Form In Same Area That Launched Helene, Milton The same area that launched two major hurricanes in a two-week span could be the breeding ground for a potential new tropical system. "We expect another gyre to get going over Central America later next week," said AccuWeather Lead Hurricane Expert Alex DaSilva, "From this large, slowly spinning area of low pressure, a more distinct area of showers and thunderstorms may form, and from that, a tropical depression or tropical storm may evolve."
